The Namibia Fight Championships boxing and kick-boxing bonanza took place on Saturday at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre.

The championship organised by Legacy Boxing Club and the Namibian Kickboxing Federation hosted 14 kick-boxing bouts and 17 boxing fights.

In one of the eye-catching fights, Delano Müller defeated Robert Robert with a unanimous decision in an absorbing three-round boxing bout.

Müller said the championship provided an opportunity for him to get ready for his upcoming kick-boxing fights.

“It was a good, tough fight. It is good preparation for my fight in the United States. It helps a lot because I don’t get much sparring opportunities or fights against opponents of my age.”

The holder of two Sub-Saharan kick-boxing titles will do battle in an exhibition fight scheduled for 14 June in the United States. The Walvis Bay-based fighter will also defend his Sub-Saharan titles in September.

Fellow Walvis Bay fighter sensei Lesley Hoaeb registered a draw in a feisty three-round boxing bout against David Haufiku.

He used the fight as good groundwork for upcoming kick-boxing fights in the near future.

“I was well prepared for this fight. It was a tough fight and I have learned from. Its back to the gym for me before I go to compete in the United States.”

Hoaeb will fight Johannes Gottwald, the world’s number one ranked kick-boxer from Germany, on 14 June in Atlanta, United States at an event dubbed ‘The Battle of Atlanta’.

Hoaeb also holds two Sub-Saharan kick-boxing titles which he will defend in September.

In a well-attended event which saw over 200 kick-boxing and boxing lovers entertained through the night, there was also a victory for exciting boxer Charlie Abisai who beat Samuel Mwatubange by a unanimous decision in a three-round contest.
